Abstract

In the times when the United States and the former Soviet Union were fighting for hegemony over the planet, one of the indicators of power was the development of the space industry. Today the number of competitors has expanded, in the same way that US dominance grows and the objectives have changed: stepping on another planet does not provide the benefit that satellites offer in the fields of telecommunications, defense or transportation. The objective of this article is to enlighten the reader about the economic and commercial potential that communication satellites provide, but also to address the inconveniences that this generates, clearly exposing the most innovative products and services, having as references essentially the markets of Spain and the United States.
