Restoration and photography

Abstract

This article, a synthesis of which was presented to the Encontros de Conservagio de Fotografía, held in Lisbon between 2 and 5 December 1997, is no more than a mere meditation aloud on something that has preoccupied the author for more than fifteen years: about the time that general interest in the history of photography in Spain was awakened. Since then, a plethora of works on the history of the medium has invaded libraries, addressing both general aspects and specific approaches aimed at establishing the history of photography in a city, province or region, or at illustrating the history and evolution of some social or cultural event.
