Abstract

During the last decade mass media initiatives directed to immigrants have proliferated in Spain because of the need of information and leisure of a culturally diverse population. As spectators and stable audience of the media, foreign citizens become a pool of consumers for which mass media companies have shown growing attention, interested in their consumption. The present article analyses the reasons for this “boom” in the specialized press, the existing offer within the Spanish mass media and the consumption realized by the minorities as published in the EMI (Study of the Media for Immigrants) Second Edition. Additionally, an analysis of contents to observe how the immigration is constructed in three Spanish mass media headings: El PaísEl Mundo y Abc is included.
