Abstract

These pages study the treatment that the Bilbao press once gave to the death of José Ortega y Gasset. To get closer to this news event as it was published in its time, we have chosen two points of reference: First, the description of the historical context and the legal and political framework in which the work of the press took place in 1955. Secondly I finish the concrete study of the news of the death of the philosopher in the local newspapers of the moment, Hierro, La Gaceta del Norte and El Correo Español-El Pueblo Vasco.

Author Biography

Fermín Galindo Arranz , University of Santiago de Compostela

Fermín Galindo Arranz holds a degree in Information Sciences from the University of the Basque Country (1986: Journalism; 1989: Advertising), and a PhD in Information Sciences from the University of the Basque Country (1992). He is currently Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where he has been teaching since 1993. Member of the International Council of CILEC, he actively participates in its congresses and dedicates his research to the study of the literary values of the best international journalism, with special dedication to the life and work of Julio Camba. Professor of journalistic genres, he is the author of numerous scientific articles and other publications on this discipline.
