After the Spanish Civil War, the dissemination of culture through the media was curtailed: the activity that had taken place before the war, both in the written press and in specialised magazines, ceased to exist. It was not until 1954 that art and literature pages reappeared in the Tenerife press, thanks to the group of intellectuals who founded Gaceta de Arte in the 1930s; Domingo Pérez Minik and Pedro García Cabrera promoted the birth of Gaceta Semanal de las Artes in the evening newspaper "La Tarde". This supplement, with three different stages in its direction, remained until 1968 as the only one published in the media of Tenerife, bringing together artists, writers and intellectuals of different generations who only had in common their opposition to the Franco regime.
