Abstract

Media competence and multiple literacies in the digital ecosystem
The media ecosystem is changing and reformulating itself due to the fact that citizens need to be continuously
informed. The consequences are multiple, but perhaps the most notorious is the inability to digest
the selected information, due to its quantity and lack of quality. Therefore, it is necessary to train students
in digital skills to reinforce competencies that favor understanding in the new interactive environment.
The message senders, their channels and the audience have similar and abruptly distant demands. For
this reason, it proposes to create tools for learning and using the Internet without forgetting its socialising
nature. Critical attitude and professional performance by communicating agents in today's "multiscreen"
society are essential to reinforce values and the individual's personality, facilitating access to truthful,
accurate and verifiable information. The technological progress and the repercussions that occur in the
multiple social spheres, and of course, in the educational field (formal and informal learning) are considerable.
The relevance of media literacy and the various applicable learning styles are developed giving
way to the segmentation, refinement and diversification of media competencies.
In this issue of RLCS, researchers and academics are invited to delve into how media content is produced,
the use of the media in the exercise of social and democratic responsibility, and the use of communication
technologies and media literacy. The resources, contexts and languages are changing and therefore, the
traditional competences adaptation is both inevitable and necessary. This also includes the promotion of
critical analysis and the strengthening of alternative digital skills.
Keywords: media literacy, informal learning, educommunication, media ecosystem, interactive environment,
digital skills.
