Receipt of articles and Editorial management

Once the articles have been received by Revista Latina de Comunicación Social, the Open Journal Systems platform (through which our publication is managed) automatically issues an acknowledgement of receipt to the authors. Subsequently, they are informed about the process of estimation or rejection in a first instance and, according to the opinion of the evaluators, about the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript. In case of acceptance, the editing process is communicated to the author(s) through discussions within the submission, accessible from their profile on the platform, or through notifications that are reflected in their profile and sent to the linked email address.

In “Guidelines for authors” (section “Submissions”) you have access to essential documents for the preparation and submission of articles:

Letter of originality.

Template in Word format for articles and reviews.

Pre-submission checklist.

Summary of APA norms 7th edition.

Within a maximum period of 15 days from the receipt of each paper, the authors will receive a notification of receipt, indicating whether the paper is rejected or preliminarily estimated for evaluation by the scientific advisors. We make available a material that can illustrate the necessary steps to carry out the shipment (See video).

The journal will make a first editorial evaluation consisting of checking the adequacy of the article to the thematic profile, its interest according to the editorial criteria of the journal, as well as compliance with the formal presentation requirements demanded in the rules of publication / guidelines for authors.

In the event that the manuscript presents important formal deficiencies or is not included in the thematic focus of the publication, the Editorial Board will reject the paper on formal or thematic criteria without the option to return. NO FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE WILL BE MAINTAINED WITH AUTHORS OF REJECTED ARTICLES.

In case the manuscript presents superficial problems of structure and/or form, the editor will send the authors the pertinent suggestions to be corrected before the manuscript is sent for review. In this case, the author will have a maximum of 10 days to submit the corrected manuscript to the editor.

The editor reserves the right to make basic formal modifications, which do not affect the content of the text, in order to expedite the editorial process. The date of receipt of the manuscript will not count until the manuscript has been correctly received.

It is strongly recommended that the manuscript be checked against the self-checker on the platform before submission.

Receipt of the article does not imply its acceptance.

Authors may only publish one article per year, alone or in co-authorship.

Once the preliminary review has been completed, the next phase is the Peer Review, which in the case of Revista Latina de Comunicación Social is carried out in the Double Blind mode.

Tiempos Review and editorial management times

Peer review process: Once the manuscript has been preliminarily estimated, the peer review process begins. This process may vary in length depending on the complexity of the work and the availability of reviewers. The maximum review period is 90 days (For more details on this stage, such as acceptance or rejection criteria, peer review system and deadlines, please visit the Peer Review Policy section).

Editorial process: After acceptance of the manuscript, the editorial phase proceeds, which includes style correction, orthotypographic revision, layout and translation. This process usually takes an average of 15 days, although it may vary depending on the workload and the speed of the authors' response to the suggested corrections.

Production phase: Once the editorial phase is completed, the final version of the article is sent to the author for final approval or conformity. At this stage, the author may only request orthotypographic changes and not content changes. With the author's approval, the different formats in which our journal is published (PDF, EPUB, HTML, XML in both languages) are produced, as well as the assignment and activation of metadata.

It is important to note that these deadlines are approximate and may vary depending on factors such as the availability of reviewers, the complexity of the manuscript and the agility in communication between authors and the editorial team.
