Television appeared in the Maghreb in the 1960s. They are public broadcasting organisations, closely linked to political power, and take France as their point of reference. The author analyses historically their creation and legislative, structural and programming expansion during the 1970s. During this time, there have been interesting experiences of co-production between Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria with Maghrebvision (1970-1974), which failed due to political factors. These television stations are closely linked to France and Italy in terms of training and technology. RAI 2 was the first television station to be seen in Tunisia following the 1960 Olympic Games. During the 1980s, there has been a spectacular expansion of satellite dishes in the Maghreb countries, with the first private channels "Canal Horizons" in Tunisia and "2 M. International" in Morocco, with the participation of French capital.
