La accesibilidad y el derecho a vestir. El Movimiento Body Positive

Editorial Aranzadi has recently published the book La accesibilidad y el derecho a vestir. The body positive movement, the work is coordinated by Yolanda María de la Fuente Robles and Almudena García de la Fuente; prologue by Leandro Cano, Golden Thimble Award 2014.

When starting a project, especially when it is innovative and at the border of multiple fields and interests, as is the case of fashion, it is essential to lay the foundations of what is the state of the art at the present time. Therefore, this book gathers the voice of all the actors involved in the world of fashion, seeking to show the other way of dealing with fashion, a more inclusive and empathetic one; thanks to this, they lend their experience in different chapters, those who lead the movement that another fashion is possible, working under the paradigm of person-centered design.

The result has been a contribution to knowledge that lays the foundations for a new stage in the fashion industry, from all stakeholders involved, but placing the rights of people at the center, the right to dress, to choose one's own image, to identify oneself with what one projects. Thanks to all the authors who have participated, people with a desire to change the world, including academics, designers, companies and researchers. It has become clear that another reality is possible, and can be achieved with involvement, commitment and good work, as has been the case of the twenty-four participants who have summarized in some interesting nineteen chapters, grouped into five blocks, where the state of the art is analyzed with an approach to the analytical and regulatory framework. Inclusive fashion, the right to dress and the social function of fashion, the holistic perspective of the concept are presented. It shows the right of choice that people with disabilities have to manage their own image, and what the concept of beauty implies in all its forms, not only the classic one. It also highlights the representation that the body has in the world of artificial intelligence, without forgetting the art with the contribution of Frida Khalo; and the social return on investment, where the business sector and its key role in the transformation of the paradigm is analyzed; marketing, shopping experiences, even the generation of employment in the fashion sector for people with disabilities; coming to analyze in the luxury sector where Basaldúa records that Haute Couture has always worked in the design focused on the person, as a guarantee of generating its own image, individualized and unique. In addition to knowing the case of Gucci, Hilfiger among others, it ends with a block of good practices of inclusive makeup, inclusive fashion companies as is the case of Free Form Style or even the traditional and artisan of Hilando el Tiempo.

In summary, it shows throughout its pages the current situation and, above all, the bases where inclusive fashion designed for all people will settle in this new stage, the result of the struggle for inclusion.
