SPECIAL ISSUE MARCH 8
Being a university professor
Last February , 2025, took place the media presentation of the book:
Ser profesor de universidad. Inteligencia emocional para una carrera de fondo, whose author is Raquel Castillo de Oyagüe.
University teaching is an exciting long-distance career, with very specific and different characteristics to those of other professions. Therefore, in addition to a high degree of training and competence, it requires specific emotional training to manage challenges favorably and emerge stronger from them.
The main objective of this book is to help you manage the distractions that, like envy or criticism, can overshadow the happiness that comes from your vocation and that you must safeguard in order to bring the best of yourself to the university.
Its pages are full of empathy, motivation and desire to contribute to your academic projection, regardless of your branch or area of knowledge.
The author defends the importance of the binomial reason/heart in higher education from an approach oriented to university teachers.
It is a manual that encourages you to persevere, to reach and cross the goal, whatever it is that you have set yourself, maintaining the illusion with which you gave your first class, to enjoy to the fullest all that you are achieving.
The author, Raquel Castillo de Oyagüe, who has developed her academic career at the Complutense University of Madrid from her beginnings as an honorary collaborator to her recent appointment as professor, conveys a philosophy of life that will be a turning point with a very positive impact on your academic and personal growth.
These pages will give you the mental clarity and courage to achieve the success and happiness you deserve, both at the finish line and along the way.
As stated in the reviews on Amazon, the platform where the book is available for purchase https://acortar.link/gWqQ0p, readers say:
“Raquel shares her experiences, challenges and learnings with a humility and openness that is inspiring. There are no secrets or hidden formulas, just the clarity of someone who has walked the path and wants others to enjoy the benefits of having a positive attitude towards life and work”.
“Written from the closeness, as if the advice were given by a great friend who only seeks your good in a world where envy has no place, this book makes us realize the importance of emotional intelligence in every aspect of our lives.”
“This book is not just a guide; it is a companion along the way, a reminder that we are not alone in the challenges we face, and a source of inspiration to continue to grow as teachers and as people.”
“I tried to read just an excerpt and it was impossible. Rachel's way of writing, describing and showing the whole university environment, plus the advice she gives you, hooks you from the first paragraph.”
“It is a book I will read again whenever I am facing difficulties because it gives light when I want to throw in the towel. As far as I know, a similar book has not yet been written.”
“This book has been a blessing in my life and I am sure it will be a blessing in yours as well. It has helped me discover a deeper purpose as a teacher.”
